Assassination of Adithan II

The Rajakesari Second Year Udayarkudik Kalvettu states that Sundara Chola was very much affected in his last days due to the disaster in his family life and that the Thiruveera Narayana Chaturveda Mangala Sabha undertook the task of confiscating and selling the property of some people for the crime of killing the 'Pandya-headed Charikala Chola'. It is clear from this inscription that Adithan II was killed by a conspiracy. This Rajakesari inscription applies to Sundara Chola and Adithan's brother Rajaraja Chola who came to the title after Uttama Chola. The inscriptions of Adithan II date back to the 5th year and it is clear that the inscription belongs to Rajaraja Chola as Adithan could not be said to have ruled before his father. It is true that in the sixteen years of Uttama Chola's rule, those who killed Aditya II were not avenged. Sundara Chola, who lost his son, either died of grief or regretted the intrigues that made it impossible to punish those who killed his son. This is not to say that Uthama Chola was not involved in the killings. Uttama Chola had a desire to ascend the throne. He did not want to accept any position other than that of king, and considered it the oldest branch of the royal family. He considered his estranged brother and his people to have usurped the throne. Sundara Chola persuaded him to mobilize in his favor, kill Aditya II and make himself a prince. Sundara Chola agreed to this in no other way. Combining references to the Thiruvalankattu swords and Udayarkudi inscriptions, it is clear that these events may have been

Suggest that. Inscription researcher Kudavayil Balasubramanian writes in his collection of essays by Dr. K. T. Thirunavukarasu that Uttama Chola was in no way involved in the murder and that the assassins were Brahmins who could prove that the delay in finding the killers was only discovered during the reign of Rajaraja.
